Indie Music News Update

To aspiring artists, cracking the million sales mark for an album may seem like a dream come true, but what about achieving one million downloads? Many indie bands are taking that route to get their music heard, and the strategy worked marvelously for Sick of Sarah. The girls just reached the million download milestone, and in the process set a record as the all-time most-seeded Torrent.

It was simply a matter of cost-benefit, according to bassist Jamie Holm. She says the decision to partner with BitTorrent will help the band attract new fans to their concerts where merchandise sales can be significant. The decision has worked out better than Sick of Sarah could have imagined.

Of course, the fact that BitTorrent wrapped the album with downloads of their program helped the seeder numbers. But the music has its own kind of infection with a post-punk, decidedly feminine point of view. The line-up has changed since the group emerged from Minneapolis is 2005, and in 2008 they were named “Best Emerging Artist” at Summerfest in Milwaukee. The BitTorrent release, “2205″ is a bouncy journey through relationships and apparent one-night-stands. Hey, if the boys can sing about it, why not the fair sex?
