Cage The Elephant, Uncaged

Cage The Elephant is a five person band that hails from the southern state Kentucky. They emerged in 2008 with their self-titled debut album, their single “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” topped the charts in both the USA and UK. The group is hard to pinpoint to a specific genre, many would call them funk and punk rock and roll. Known for their very intense live performances, heavy guitar riffs and mixing in soul; they quickly garnered an underground following.

The band toured for two years to promote their debut album, during their tours they wrote over eighty songs thinking they would use them on their sophomore album. Upon returning home to Kentucky, they secluded themselves in rural cabins and scratched all eighty songs. Instead they wrote all new songs for their sophomore album, “Happy Birthday, Thank You”.

The front man, Matt Shultz, said that their debut album was based on fear writing, he wanted something more honest and authentic for the sophomore album. “Happy Birthday, Thank You”, seems to be heavy on the punk sound with heavy metal inspired guitar riffs. Fans need to not worry, there are still songs that favor the soulful funk that made this band popular. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: An Early Ending – Igniter
